Meeting on November 4, 2018
Here we are again, after the holiday
on 28thOctober. We met on Sunday morning at 10:30.
We started,
as always, with subjects related to the art of photography. We pointed out how
important it is to feel joy during the shooting without thinking about the
result at that moment. We also talked about the following Walker Evans's quote:
"cultured life is seen in photos." We investigated the origin of the
artist's inspiration. In Anna Karenina, Leo Tolstoy writes: "Artists are
only those who are inspired directly from life and not those inspired
indirectly from life already embodied in art." Finally, we talked about
the dilemma of black and white or coloured photography and we concluded that no
dogmatism is needed - good photography exists in both categories.
Then it was
time to play. We wore our blindfolds and with us all stood in a circle, holding
rope, we tried to make the circle a square.

Then it was time for the
technical issues. Are there any equivalent combinations of shutter speed and
lens aperture that give the same exposure? Of course, there are! We checked whether
these combinations give the same effect. The answer is positive, although we
found some small differences. But there is an explanation: the shooting took
place outside, so the alternations of solar lighting influenced, albeit
imperceptibly, the result.

In each photo, we reduced the
brightness by 1 stop by adjusting the shutter speed and at the same time, we
increased it by 1 stop by adjusting the diaphragm.
Afterwards, as usual, we all saw
the photographs we had been taking in the last week and we reviewed them.
