Ultimately, this is our last meeting at the school library for this year. Unfortunately, everyone could attend… Those of us devoted enough to be here, begun with an evaluation of this photography program, by sharing what we liked and didn’t like during this year. Afterwards, we played “musical chairs” the popular children’s game. Lastly , we gathered around a table in the school yard , taking our brunch and coming together as a company. Was this it then? We meet again in September? Of course not, we set a date to meet again in the summer, yet the details shall remain a secret!

Meeting on May 12, 2019

This might have been our last meeting at the school library for this year. This is the reason why it was somewhat different. We started with a technical subject by breaking down the PSAM functions and the differences between the bodies of cameras. We continued by discussing matters we’ve dealt with through the year and by making plans for our future activities. We got so absorbed that we even forgot to shoot any pictures. Unbelievable isn’t it? Unbelievable yet true! This is the reason why we’re only posting a picture of our team’s acronym.

Educational visit to Thessaloniki. May 09, 2019

Image
Today we made an educational day trip to the city of Thessaloniki! We started travelling by intercity bus from the town of Katerini at 08:30 and returned at 21:30. Firstly we visited the experimental centre of arts where we visited two exhibitions hosted there under the “Thessaloniki Design Week” festival. To be more specific, we visited the following exhibits: Projects from the international open call & Greek product designers’ exhibition. Afterwards we visited the Photography Museum. There we visited the photography exhibition “Young Greek Photographers 2010-2019”. Our next visit was at the “Which body is mine” exhibition by Ioanna Skantzheli which is hosted at the Bensousan Han under the “SKG Bridges Uprising Art & Culture Festival” which is co-ordinated by the Ministry of Culture & Sports in co-operation with the “Thessaloniki Concert Hall” organization. Then, each member of our team separately, walked along the esp...

Meeting on April 14, 2019

Easter is drawing closer, and so does the end of this school year. In order to compensate for the material that we haven’t shown yet, today we presented the work of 4 great creators: Diane Arbus, Bill Brandt, Julia Margaret Cameron and Roy de Carava. Afterwards, upon request by all the team members, we played the game which was well loved last week. It’s about time we reveal how it’s played: you stick on everybody’s back a sticker with a cartoon character. Then everyone tries to guess which character is on their back by asking others related questions, to which they can answer only by yes or no. Take a look at some pictures from the game: After all that, we decided to take some shots with a neutral density ND filter. In these shots some “magic” effects are generated as you’ll notice in the following photos. Everyone is underneath the shed, yet they cannot be seen, unless they’re still! In the triple photos above, those who are moving disappear b...

Meeting on April 07, 2019

In this meeting we got to know the life and work of a great photographer: Andre Kertesz. Where does one begin when describing Kertesz? We shall only mention one incident: When asked why is he still shooting photos at 90 years of age he replied: “Because I am still hungry!” Onto the technical matters now, we practised on the panning technique. Mr. Stavros S. offered to help us by taking plenty of laps with his bike! As we all know when using the panning technique, you have to experiment and shoot a lot of pictures in order to get at the very least one that is actually decent. So that’s what we did. We chose a telephoto lens to further blur the background and used a neutral density ND 16 filter that shaves off 4 stops so that the picture will be correctly exposed as the slow shutter speed we chose led to closed diaphragm values that simply do not exist in any lens! You can see the results down below: Lastly, we played a new game that thrilled us! We’ll say more ...

A visit to the Orlia stream waterfalls at Olympus mountain. March 31, 2019

Image
Spring has come for good and we head for the mountains! We visited the mythical mountain Olympus to enjoy the scenery and photograph the waterfalls. Our goal was to create an image where the water looks kind of blurry. To accomplish this, we used a neutral density filter (ND 1000). And we most certainly used a tripod and chose a slow shutter speed.
