Meeting on January 27, 2019

Sunday morning, at 10:45 we had our regular appointment, as every Sunday. We started with a presentation of Eugene Atget, a “laborer” photographer, considering that for many years he carried a 20kg suitcase to every corner of Paris. The result of his work, simply amazing! And yet, he worked in the 19th century and his camera captured pictures on glass plates, not even on film! The comparison with the current technological era, with all its fascinating conveniences, is immeasurable

Then we were invited or rather ... we were challenged by our teacher, to take the same pictures as the ones we had been given. To do this we had to analyze the photos in terms of photographic technique and then operate the schools camera, the Nikon D3200, ourselves.

Down below are the first photos we were given and the ones we shot:

For this shot to be taken you need the following:

Slow shutter speed to create the ghost effect, closed aperture to have a large depth of field and a tripod to keep the camera still (otherwise the library would also appear to be shaken). In practice, we simply placed the camera on a table and took the shot using the selfie button.

The following is the second pair of photos:

In this photo it is easier to understand what they had done to create the shot: shallow depth of field, for which we had to use a telephoto lens, wide open aperture and to get as close as possible to the object.

The third pair of photos is the one below:

As one can easily understand, in this case we had to dim the picture and we did so by placing the camera in the M (manual) setting, and simply choosing a faster shutter speed than the one suggested by the photometer.

Down below are some photos from our meeting:
